🎯 Definition
(*두산백과 “겹받침” 참조.)
“From left to right, from top to bottom” is the principle of writing.
Let’s try writing in the air with our index finger.
① 모 ➕ ㄳ = 몫[목]
② 아 ➕ ㄵ = 앉[안]
③ 아 ➕ ㄶ = 않[안]
④ 이 ➕ ㄺ = 읽[일]
⑤ 사 ➕ ㄻ = 삶[삼]
⑥ 바 ➕ ㄼ = 밟[밥]
⑦ 고 ➕ ㄽ = 곬[골]
⑧ 하 ➕ ㄾ = 핥[할]
⑨ 으 ➕ ㄿ = 읊[읍]
⑩ 아 ➕ ㅀ = 앓[알]
⑪ 가 ➕ ㅄ = 값[갑]
💢Be Careful!
When an second final consonant in a consonant meets a morphophonemic morpheme beginning with a vowel, the second final consonant is pronounced as the initial sound of the following syllable.
For example, “앉아요. I sit.” this word has double consonants in “앉” letter.
When I pronounce this word, as we learn in front, [안] is correct to say.
However, because the second final consonant “ㅈ” meets the next letter “아”, I should say “[안자요]”, instead of “[안아요]”.
- 앉아요 [안자요] I sit / please sit.
- 값이 비싸요 [갑시 비싸요] The price is expensive
- 책을 읽어요[채글 일거요] I read a book.
